Rainbow Trout (Salmo gairdneri)

The Rainbow Trout is found all over British Columbia and is one of the most sought after game fish known in Canada.

The trout is praised for its beautiful colors and fighting ability by area fisherman. When the trout is caught on a fishing line and a hook catches the trout twists, turns, jumps and leaps out of the water. It is a show worth catching.

The Rainbow trout prefers cold streams and swift currents, but still adapts to lake environments. In the spring, the trout head up stream to spawn. The female trout lays her eggs and then a male will fertilize them. The eggs hatch in about three months and the fish fry (baby trout) leave the gravel nest three weeks after they are born.
Because it can only survive in streams and lakes with high oxygen content, this fish is very venerable to human pollutants.
