The Sunset Country region is located in the northwest section of Ontario, Canada. The region is part of the Canadian Shield and, therefore, it is decorated by historic rocks, lakes and rivers surrounded by far reaching boreal forest and wetland regions. It is an ideal environment for visitors and travelers seeking endless hours of adventure and wilderness scenery. 

Sunset Country is home to many smaller communities. Each unique and different from the other. The main tourism and travel communities located in Sunset Country include Red Lake, Kenora, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls, Fort Frances, Lake of the Woods, Morson, Rainy River and Antikokan.

The larger communities in Sunset Country provide many of the services important to travelers including accommodations, outfitters, tours, guides, attractions, campgrounds, museums, restaurants, banks, gas stations, grocery stories, internet and transportation like car rentals and air services.

Accommodations range in price and quality. The deep northern regions of Ontario are home to the majority of fishing lodges, wilderness resorts, fly-in camps, outfitter cabins and outposts catering to fishing and hunting enthusiasts. The developed communities include accommodations like hotels, inns, motels, campgrounds, B&Bs and vacation homes.

At last count Sunset Country consisted of over 100,000+ fresh water lakes. Most lakes and rivers in the region are ideal for fishing for walleye, perch, northern pike, bass, whitefish, brook and lake trout.

A good number of lakes are home to lodges and outfitter camps. Some lodges enjoy drive-in access while others are more remote and require boat or floatplane transportation.

The wilderness regions located in the north of Ontario, Canada are the provincial playgrounds for many of the tour, guide & outfitter companies providing canoe, flightseeing, and snowmobiling adventures.

The vast expanse of land and water are home to many species of wildlife including moose and black bear. Look further north, on the shores of Hudson Bay, one can view wildlife like polar bears and beluga whales.

During the summer months some of the adventures enjoyed in Sunset Country include golfing, fishing, birdwatching, hiking, houseboating, canoeing, hunting, kayaking, mountain biking, water skiing, camping, sightseeing, mountain climbing, boating, windsurfing, wildlife watching and picnicking.

In the winter months, after the snow falls and the rivers and lakes freeze over, activities in the region include cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and snowmobiling. At the higher elevations in some communities there are ski hills providing downhill skiing and snowboarding.
