Red Lake, Ontario, Canada is located in the Sunset Country Region of Northwest Ontario. The Red Lake region consists of six townships including Balmertown, Cochenour, Madsen, McKenzie Island and Starratt Olsen. Also in the region, just south of Red Lake, is the Village of Ear Falls. Red Lake is considered the "Gateway to the Woodland Caribou Provincial Park" and is also referred to as the "Norseman Capital of the World."

Red Lake is part of the Canadian Shield which is well known for its rugged and weathered rock surfaces and for its chain of lakes and rivers. The largest and closest include Gullrock Lake, Lac Seul, Medicine Stone Lake, Red Lake and Trout Lake.

The more popular paddle routes include the Berens River, the Wabigoon River, the Bloodvein River and the 2000+ kilometres of lakes and rivers in the Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. During the winter months activities enjoyed in Red Lake include ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Cross country ski trails are best enjoyed on the frozen lakes in the area, on McKenzie Island and throughout the local golf course.

Some of the wildlife sightings one may encounter in the region include moose, black bear, beaver, grey wolf, red fox and deer. Other sightseeing highlights when exploring the region include the Northern Lights and some of the best preserved First Nation pictographs.

In and near the community of Red Lake, Ontario there are some popular parks, trails and sightseeing destinations including Red Lake's Kinsmen Beach, Mckenzie Island, Millennium Trail, Forestry Point and the Norseman Heritage Park which celebrates the history of floatplanes. Near the Village of Balmertown is another beach called Rahill Beach and in the Village of Cochenour is the Cochenour Beach. And... there is a beautifully maintained park in Ear Falls called the Patricia Waterfront Park. Away from the local communities the major parks most enjoyed include the Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, Trout Lake Provincial Natural Reserve and the Pakwash Provincial Park located north of Ear Falls.
