. What is the history of Virden? Virden, Manitoba, Canada has a long railroad history. The history of the railroad is best told when visiting the the local museum and the Canadian Railway Station. Many buildings in Virden have a history built from fieldstone or brick including the Aud Theater (1911), St Mary's Anglican Church (1885) and the Goulding House (1893).

History is also found east of Virden, Manitoba at Fort Montagne a La Bosse. The fort operated between 1790 - 1821 as a supply fort during the fur trade years. It was a stockade post with several cabins located on the south side of the Assiniboine River. Today a memorial cairn is located on the site.
