Here is a Wawa Things To Do List for some of the more popular summer and winter adventures and activities enjoyed while visiting and exploring, in and around, Wawa, Ontario, Canada and the surrounding communities of Chapleau, Marathon, Hawk Junction, Michipicoten River Village and White River.
Fishing : Thousands of inland lakes in Algoma Country. There are fly-in lodges, outposts and wilderness campsites for remote fishing. A full service marina is on Lake Superior. And there are many guides and charters for fishing salmon, walleye, pike, lake trout, bass and whitefish.
Beaches : Visit the sandy beaches in the Wawa region for swimming, sun tanning and fun. Main beach in Wawa is Wawa Beach on the waterfront. Other nearby beaches include Lion's Beach, Sandy Beach, Government Beach and Driftwood Beach.
Go Sightseeing : Plan a boat/canoe tour and visit the pictographs from Lake Superior and Missinaibi Parks. Board a floatplane and enjoy a flightseeing tour over the region. Take a wildlife tour and view bear, moose and birds.
Pack a Picnic :Pack a picnic and visit one of the day use picnic parks and lookouts near Wawa and Chapleau. Ontario. Picnic tables and/or shelters located at local Wawa picnic sites like High Falls, Dr. Rose Beach, Potholes Park and Wawa Beach.
Day Hiking : Enjoy hiking the community trails like the Magpie Voyageur
Trail (3 km), Silver Falls Trail (500 Metres), Mr. Vallée Park Trail (2.8 km) and the trails located in the nearby provincial and national parks.
Waterfalling :Waterfalling in Wawa is easy and close by. Short trails lead to Silver Falls and Scenic High Falls on the Magpie River. Or venture out to some of the nearby parks like Pukaskwa National Park and hike trails leading to falls.
Take a Walk :Explore the village in Wawa on foot. Start with a sightseeing self guided tour on the Heritage Walkway along the shores of Wawa Lake and then venture into town and do some poking around and shopping.
Bring Swim Gear :Beaches like Sandy Beach, Driftwood Beach and Wawa Beach provide endless summer fun in the Wawa area. Plan for a day of swimming, sunbathing, and/or building sand castles.
Birding :Birding with binoculars and camera in hand is enjoyed at many of the wilderness parks in the region. Popular birds viewed include the loon, blue heron, sandhill crane, osprey, owl and bald eagle.
Paddle Adventures :There are a large selection of wilderness canoe and kayak paddle routes, both day and overnight, exploring remote river waterway networks in the region's parks, in a game preserve and on Lake Superior.
Road Trip :Pack up the family, water toys and hit the road for adventure. From Wawa there are many wilderness parks in the region to visit and enjoy a day exploring the trails, water or sandy beaches.
Off Roading : There are many kilometres of trails and backcountry gravel roads in the region leading to lakes, meadows, swamps, forests and remote destinations that are ideal for ATVs.
Sledding :The local club maintains a snowmobile trail system. These trails connect to another 2,500 km of trails in Algoma Country which connect to 49,000 km of snowmobile trails in the province of Ontario.
Cross Country Ski : Trails, backcountry roads, frozen lakes and rivers become popular for cross country skiing. The Wawa Area trails are developed and maintained cross country ski destinations.
