The Lower Lake Trail is a 3.3 kilometre one way walking trail following the eastern shores of Lower Kananaskis Lake in the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada. The route leads to many lake and mountain views.
The Lower Kananaskis Lake Trail follows a dirt path through the forest. The trail is a well signed, well maintained sightseeing trail with little elevation gain or rough terrain.
The Lower Lake Trail begins from the Canyon Recreation Day Use Area near the Canyon Campground or from the local lodge resort on the shores of Lower Kananaskis Lake. Across the roadway from the lodge is the trailhead for the 1.5 kilometre Marsh Loop Trail.
The Lower Lake Trail is an easy-going, level walking trail with an elevation gain of 30 metres only. The route is well suited for families and for people of all abilities. It provides an excellent opportunity to view the mud flats of the Lower Kananaskis Lake and the surrounding Spray Mountain Range.
Along the route are a few viewpoints and open shoreline with sitting benches and views of the Spray Mountain Range and the Lower Kananaskis Lake. There are pit toilets at the trailhead entrance.
At the Canyon Recreation Day Use Area (north trailhead) there are picnic tables, viewing benches, grass lawns, canoe launch and lake access. It is a good opportunity for a picnic before or after the hike while enjoying lake and mountain views.
During the winter months the Lower Lake Trail is a snowshoe route.
