Pigeon Lake Provincial Park

The Pigeon Lake Provincial Park is recreation and campground destination located southwest of the community of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Near the village of Pigeon Lake, in the Central Alberta region of Canada.

Edmonton, Alberta park photo galleryPigeon Lake measures 22 kilometres long and 11 kilometres wide. The Pigeon Lake Provincial Park is situated on the southwest shore of the lake and was first established as a park in 1967.

The Pigeon Lake region is an adventure and activity destination year round. During the summer months the lake is popular for walking, biking, camping, swimming, birdwatching, canoeing, kayaking, boating, sailing, water skiing, wind surfing and fishing.

Fishing on the lake is for, mostly, trout, perch, pike , whitefish, walleye and burbot.

There is a campground in the park providing both serviced and unserviced sites. There are showers and washrooms in the campground.

The recreation trail of Pigeon Lake measures 12 kilometres long and follows the shores of of the lake, exploring an aspen forest and connecting to the campground. 6 kilometres of the recreation trail forms part of the Trans Canada Trail.

During the winter months after the lake freezes over and the snow has fallen the lake becomes an ice fishing and snowmobiling destination. The surrounding recreation trail becomes an ungroomed cross country ski route.

The day use area in the park includes a beautiful sandy beach with picnic tables, fire pits, washrooms and change rooms. Nearby there is a boat launch and a concession stand (summer months only).

Located along the shores of the lake are other public and private beach areas including the very popular Ma-Me-O Beach and other, less popular, beaches like the Norris Beach, Sundance Beach, Mission Beach, Itaska Beach, Argentia Beach and Silver Beach.
