Derby Reach Regional Park

Derby Reach Regional Park was, at one time, the original site of Fort Langley, during the early 1800s. The fort operated as a Hudson's Bay Trading Post dealing in furs, canning and farming goods. The historic fort, since then, has moved south 12 kilometres to its new location where it is on display as a Historic Site of Canada.

Vancouver history is still on display in the Derby Reach Regional Park. There is currently a plaque and cairn recognizing the original site of Fort Langley, the Houston House and the Karr/Mercer Historic Barn.

Derby Reach Regional Park is divided into two areas - Edgewater Bar and the Heritage Area. Separating the two areas are some hiking trails and the Langley Bog (not open to public). The Heritage Area is the equestrian and historic side and Edgewater Bar is the campground, day use area of the park.

Edgewater Bar includes a self serve, first come-first serve campground, washrooms, day use picnic area, picnic shelter, off leash dog area, lots of parking, fire pits, access to an information centre and the Edge Trail.

The Edge Trail (800 m) follows a hard packed gravel pathway exploring the Edgewater Bar area. The Langley hiking route includes interpretive signs, sightseeing benches and viewing lookouts points. The trail connects to the campground, a fishing bar and various shoreline access points on the Fraser River.

The Edge Farm Trail (1.6 km) follows a hard packed gravel trail along the banks of the Fraser River. The trail connects Edgewater Bar to the Heritage Area. The Heritage Area includes historic sites, a day use picnic area, Derby Bluff sightseeing viewpoint, interpretive signs and some washrooms.

The Fort to Fort Trail is a hard packed gravel trail connecting the park with the Fort Langley Historic Site of Canada. The trail measures about 12 kilometres and follows the banks of the Fraser River much of the way. There are some great views of the Bedford Channel (Fraser River).
