Hyla Park Nature Preserve is a wilderness park that has let nature run its course. It is a great place to see birds, bugs, beaver dams and amphibians. The trails are unsigned in the reserve sometimes making navigating the reserve challenging. It is a marsh, and marshes have mosquitoes so wear long short and pants.
Hyla Park Nature Preserve adventures, and activities most enjoyed in the marsh includes wildlife watching, hiking, biking (Gibson Trail), jogging, and walking.
If you like roughing it and being one with nature this is a great little park in the city. There is minimal trail maintenance and the reserve is more of a wildlife sanctuary for smaller wildlife and birds. It claims to be Canada's first amphibian park.
A few of the more popular highlights, amenities and services located in and around the Hyla Park Nature Preserve are pretty much nil. It is a natural park with no trail signage and no services.
