Fort Edward National Historic Site is North America's oldest blockhouse. Built in 1750, the historic site was a fort used for defensive meassures against the revolting Mi'kmaq First Nation people and the disgruntled Acadian settlers of the region. The site is built on a high cliff overlooking the St. Croix and Avon Rivers of the Minas Basin.

Because it is the oldest fort in North America and visitors can see actual graffiti on the walls inside the blockhouse from the soldiers who once occupied the fort during the 1700s.
