Without the Drum and singers, there would not be a pow-wow. Our Earth Mother heart beat is brought outby the beat of the drum to the pow-wow for all to feel and hear. As you soon as the drumming starts, an overwhelming feeling flows outwards from my heart every-time I attend a pow-wow. Gives me the feeling of being. home and at peace. Drumming brings everyone, everything back into balance. Through dancing, singing or just sitting and listening to the drum will connect you with spirit. the Drum should always be treated with respect.

tiquette when attending a powwow and it's importance. If you ever get the priveledge to attend a pow-wow, please do not refer to the dancers' regalia as costumes, and never touch a dancer's regalia beacause they have religious or symbolic meanings and are family heirlooms that may have been passed down generations. Always ask dancer's permission before taking a picture. Never pick up a lost or dropped feather, or point with fingers is poor manners, nod using your head in the direction of interest. Stay on the perimeter of the arena, never cross the arena floor.
Traditional First Nation dancing was to tell stories that have been passed down through generations. Sharing stories about the animals, the land, dreams, visions, ethics and other nations.
If you are unfamiliar and not understand what is going on, just ask someone. Don't be afraid to ask questions, you will gain more knowledge, awareness of culture and new friends. Pow-wow is a social spiritual experience for all people attending.
