Merritt BC celebrates Halloween with festive decorations. Did you know that Halloween has its roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It was believed that during this time, the boundary between the living and the dead was blurred. The time when the spirits of the dead could return and walk amongst the living. To ward these spirits off, people lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off these malevolent spirits.
