Nicola Lake is a popular outdoor recreation destination spot located in the heart of Nicola Valley BC. It is an ideal spot for avid anglers, beginners, or for those just wanting to get out on the lake. Nicola Lake is home to 26 different species of fish. A dream destination for all anglers. Nicola Lake supports a variety of fish species that include bull trout, cutthroat trout, kokanee, rainbow, chinook, coho, burbot and more. Rainbow trout and kokanee are most popular with anglers. Also rainbows weigh up to 4 lbs. while Kokanee remain in the 1 lb. class. Additionally, the most popular methods used are, trolling lures, flatfish, wedding bands and spinning gear. Although I have been told that shrimp are great for fishing off the shore or at the dock.
Monck Provincial Park is located on the shores of the lake, at a site which once was a First Nation village. Today, these depressions known as quiggly holes, were used for Indigenous pit houses. These are archaeological sites that include two First Nation pit house depressions located in the day-use beach park area. Furthermore, the Nlaka'pamux, Secwépemc, and Upper Nicola people wintered in these traditional permanent winter homes called "pit houses." This log-framed structure would of been built over a dug-out floor and then covered with earth for insulation. Interesting fact that the local Indigenous peoples built sustainable shelters for the climate and environment of the Nicola Valley BC.
